He was known for his work on congenital juvenile osteochondritis, and contributed to the pathological understanding of osteitis fibrosa cystica and achondroplasia.
In 1898 he was the first scientist to describe H黵thle cells, and in 1904 he was the first to link osteitis fibrosa cystica with parathyroid tumors.
